A free and open-source application that enables you to run Alpine
Linux distribution in virtual machine on your Android device. The
application is based on QEMU system emulator. Your device does not
need to be rooted or have specialized features like KVM. Input and
output are being performed through Xterm-compatible terminal
screen.
Alpine Linux distribution offers thousands of packages suitable for various tasks: software development testing system administration science console games etc. However we don't guarantee usability of the all available packages. Emulator performance is limited and approximately 80% slower than your device.
Implementation notes:
* Text based no graphics support.
* Usage instructions are shown after login.
* Long tap anywhere on screen to open context menu or copy/paste text.
* Only one terminal tab. If you need more please use a multiplexer: tmux screen or other favorite.
* You'll need to re-install Alpine Linux on persistent storage as by default installation is a bare live ISO image.
Few ideas for what you can use vmConsole:
* Explore the world of Linux.
* Run code in Bash C C++ Python and other languages.
* Edit your code on the go using VIM Nano or other command-line editors.
* Run your website demo on a local web server.
* Run Docker containers.
* Connect to remote systems over SSH.
This application requires certain level of Linux administration skills in order to be useful. It is expected that user understands such concepts as virtual machine serial console terminal and is able to use utilities like Bash Coreutils etc. Ability to read the terminal contents is also a must.
