The free English Idioms for Foreign Students app includes idioms:
colloquial literary and proverbial; all clearly explained and
exemplified. The idioms are situated within a clearly defined
context and the collection is divided into ten categories according
to the subject of the key word involved.
It is often difficult for the foreign students to appreciate the full social significance of an idiom - in what situation it is used by what sort of people in what tone of voice and so on - and to know when he may safely use it himself. We have tried therefore to give some indication of the context in which native speakers of English use the idioms in this book by marking them all with one of the following labels: general proverbs formal colloquial and slang.
