In January of 2014 a "backdoor" was found to exist in many home
WiFi routers. The backdoor was so widespread that it was widely
reported in tech news site Slashdot:

Aleph Void has developed an Android application that will check your WiFi network for this vulnerability. Network Detective will allow the user to see configuration parameters on the router in clear text - and even update them. This does require being connected to the WiFi network the user needs to test but it is a quick tool for users to check their WiFi routers for this vulnerability. T
