The calculator evaluates PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) data routine examination of men over 40 or 45 years old and expresses the likelihood of risk for prostate cancer by analyzing different conditions. When the value of free PSA is present in the exams the analysis becomes more complete noting that a total PSA value below 2.5 ng/ml detracts from the importance of measuring free PSA in the blood.
The calculator provides three response lines plus the percentage value between free PSA and total PSA. In the first line the total PSA value is analyzed probably expressing the main risk factor in question. In the second line the free PSA is evaluated and we also express its probable influence on the risk of being in the presence of a prostate cancer as the result of the total PSA. In the third line we take into account the age of the patient to reduce or not the probabilities of problem. We take into account the tables updated in the studies on the subject: tolerance factor between age and value of total PSA.
They are straightforward answers and easy to interpret for anyone.
In the worst conditions the need for further investigation (biopsy) at two levels will be expressed in the third response line: indicated research or strongly indicated investigation.
Blue colors represent positive or neutral points while red colors indicate a risk or need for attention.
For better interpretation of the calculator data we suggest reading further in the application information area. The value of free PSA is not always necessary it is most useful when the total PSA is above 2.5 or 4.0 ng/ml it depends on the age of the man.
We look for reliable up-to-date sources. The calculations are based on tables and statistics but the decision to perform a biopsy is not up to the doctor preferably a urologist.
Physical examination is essential. Other tests such as ultrasound and biopsy may be necessary for further conclusions.
