Android 8.0+ Permissions
Modify system settings (write settings) - allows the app to dim the status bar and notification drawer on Oreo+ devices. You can run the app without granting this permission but you probably won't be happy.

Android Limitations
Google is now preventing apps from overlaying the status bar and notification drawer in Android 8 and above. You can still have limited control of notification drawer brightness through the app if you grant permission to modify your system settings. Unfortunately colour filters (in all filtering apps not just Mistify) cannot be applied to the notification drawer on Android 8+ devices.
